At what level of generality should this page be? If you already have some ideas about path signs, then I guess you could abstract out the high-level issues and add them. On the other hand, if you are new to these issues, you might be intimidated about contributing. Perhaps my example might encourage other Boroondara BUG members to have a go.

It is best to add whatever content you wish. We can then edit the article, or split it into two if necessary. The more contributions the better. Peter Campbell 14:12, 22 February 2010 (CST)

The following section was removed from the main article for further discussion as some not agree with including it yet. Peter Campbell 09:02, 5 May 2010 (CDT)

[edit] Hierarchy of paths

  • Conduct traffic volume studies to identify 'commuter' v. 'recreational' paths
  • Develop a hierarchy of 'freeway', 'arterial', and 'feeder' paths, etc. by analogy with roads
  • Colours and appearance of name signs to indicate whether a path is major or minor, i.e. postion in hierarchy
Perhaps just keep the last bullet item, slightly modified? I have noted that the Yarra River Trail is becoming quite a crowded thoroughfare at peak times. Perhaps "Colours and appearance of name signes to indicate the imporatance of a path, e.g. whether a 'freeway', 'arterial', or 'feeder'." hedley 03:19, 6 May 2010 (CDT)
