Green batteries are less harmful to the environment than ordinary batteries. The greenest option is to use rechargeable batteries that either contain low toxicity components and can be fully recycled such as:

  • Nickel metal hydride (NiMH)
  • Lithium ion
  • Lithium polymer (Lipo)
  • Lead acid

Avoid the following battery types if possible, or make sure you recycle them if you have to use them:

  • Nickel cadmium (NiCAD)
  • Alkaline
  • Lithium
